ABOUT KAM

Kamron King is the  owner and operator King’s Fitness.  He is a life-long resident of Glendora.  Kamron attended Cullen Elementary school, Sandburg Middle School and then Glendora High school.  While at Glendora High Kamron was a three-sport letterman and ultimately received a football scholarship from UC Berkeley.    Kam played five years for the Golden Bears.   For three of those five years he started at offensive guard.  His senior season he was named team captain, offensive MVP and garnished the Strongest Bear award for being the strongest player at Cal.

Upon graduation that spring Kam was not sure what he wanted to do.  This led Kam to the Virgin Islands for a brief stint doing random jobs.   When Kam returned home he was working out in a local gym when he was approached to be a personal trainer.   Kam accepted the offer, thinking it would be a temporary job while he figured what he “really” wanted to do.  It has been over twenty five years since that fateful day.  After seven years of twelve to fourteen hour days training as many as fourteen people a day Kam realized he wanted to do more.  This led to the creation of King’s.  Against the wishes of his family (they wanted him to do something more traditional) he opened in the corner of a shopping center in 1995.

Through the years King’s and Kam have gone through many transitions.  From a playing weight of 285lbs Kam dropped to a svelte 220lbs.  King’s meanwhile doubled in size from its humble beginnings.   In 1998 Kam had two back operations to repair ruptured discs in his lower back.  After a difficult recovery, Kam began doing more cardio work and less heavy lifting.   This in turn led him to compete in numerous endurance events including three Ironmans in California, Australia and New Zealand.   After winning the LA triathlon Kam was ranked nationally.  He hoped to take over the number one ranking later that year in Chicago but was unable to compete due to a bad case of plantar fasciitis.   Ultimately Kam finished his triathlon career with the famous Escape from Alcatraz race in the Bay Area.

Since then, Kam married his girlfriend Sheri and has had three children, Kody, Kamryn and Kolt.   In July, 2007 Kam and his wife bought Georgio’s Tuxedo’s building at 917 E. Route 66.  Later that year they began a major renovation and addition.   In October of 2008 the new home for King’s was completed.  Owning and operating a gym as well as owning the building was the completion of a journey Kam that started back in 1980 when he first attended a public gym at the suggestion of his life –long friend Bruce Hunt.  Bruce was coincidently Kam’s quarterback at GHS and was prudent enough to realize that the bigger his offensive line was the safer he was. Bruce had no idea what he put into motion that day.
